The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

The pace bowler has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an stellar bowling average.

Australia's chair of selectors the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Earlier indications from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest kicking off on the 21st of November in the WACA.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the prospects of being involved.

"It's clear that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not just his injury, but further aspects," he commented.

"It's positive. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a significant role. Hopefully from the opening match. If not, we'll adjust."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.

Previous incidents include of back injuries, with flare-ups in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.

He emphasized he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the Ashes.

Bailey noted that there was no confirmation if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the opener.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against the subcontinent side as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

Bailey described it as a "minor" injury and stated that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "ideally positioned to resume bowling."

"Considerable effort has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the first Test as an dual-role player," Bailey explained.

"He was only going to play the starting games anyway. The way he swings the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for a short period, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
