See the Director's The Odyssey Preview in a Manner It Wasn't Meant to Be Seen.

The acclaimed filmmaker's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, stands as a movie we've been eagerly awaiting ever since it was revealed. It easily ranks among the most hotly anticipated motion pictures coming next year. As a pre-Christmas treat, a trailer has finally arrived, though it's hampered by YouTube's poor compression—perhaps explaining the director's choice to restrict the trailer solely for theatrical audiences.

A First Glimpse of the Stellar Ensemble

This first look reveals Matt Damon portraying Odysseus. We also see Tom Holland playing the son and Anne Hathaway as Penelope. During an emotional scene, the character pleads with her husband to vow his safe homecoming, to which he look up and question what happens if he cannot. The trailer also offers a quick, obscured look at Polyphemus the Cyclops, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.

Based upon a foundational pillar of Western literature, The Odyssey follows the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph in the Trojan War, as told in Homer's Iliad, the king faces an extended and hazardous road home.

Legendary Obstacles and a Star-Studded Lineup

On his travels, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. These include the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, as well as the treacherous Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to reunite with his wife and son on his home island.

This film's ensemble boasts an impressive lineup. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway is Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, together with Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

The classic poem has inspired many reinterpretations throughout history. These range from contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. It has even been adapted into a musical titled Epic: The Musical, released in the form of a multi-part album series.

A full-length preview was long awaited following the project's reveal and a short teaser clip which was initially shown only on the big screen. That teaser subsequently found its way online soon after.

To see a clearer version, the preview available via the film's official social channel might deliver enhanced visual quality.

The Odyssey is scheduled for release on global IMAX screens next summer.
